Jessie
Shanti Yoga Center Founder, Yoga and Aerial Teacher
How did you first come to yoga, & what was that experience like?
I started practicing yoga in college as a means of managing insomnia and headaches. Shortly into the practice, I discovered the benefits extended into my recreational athletic endeavors. I loved to run and lift weights but did very little mobility and stretching. I discovered yoga gave me strength and stability in a different way, it helped me calm my mind and focus. I was injury free and the headaches and sleeplessness started to go away. Meditation became a significant part of my daily rituals and extended into my graduate school work and beyond.
What is your favorite experience of Yoga?
Taking a group of students on a retreat in Mexico in Nov. 2021.
A piece of Yogic Philosophy that's special to you?
Why do you teach?
I love bringing the power of the practice to others. The mind, the body the spirit - it is all touched and healed with this beautiful practice of yoga. No matter who you are and where you are in your life, yoga can help! My desire to share what has been a sweet source of strength and peace for me is strong. I believe in community and connection, bringing people together to experience a share energy and compassion. Yoga does this. It keeps us remembering that we are all connected, unified in this wonderful universe.
